Had planned to give up acting after her role in "Grange Hill" (1978) ended and study at 6th form college, but heard she had secured the role in "EastEnders" (1985) shortly before term was due to begin.
She is a fan of character acting, and in 1986 she named Denholm Elliott as her favourite actor and Beryl Reid as her favourite actress.
